"For the Mayan civilization humans were made of corn, and all the surrounding myths as to how we become what we are remain in San Bartolo murals. Found inside of a vast pyramid in 2004, and still in the excavation process, this amazing display of pictographs show some icons of the Mayans and is a demonstration of their highly artistic abilities.
For this collection we were inspired by these icons and created illustrations that combined with the crafts of the women of the highlands of Guatemala produced textiles for home décor pieces. Corn, the king sent by the Gods, a tree of life, squash and ornaments that represent this great storytelling and their heritage.
The color palette takes the earthy tones of the murals, the brown yellow of the plaster, strong dark lines with highlights of blue according to the importance of water in Mayan vision. Then these graphs were translated into textile in the techniques of vertical and backstrap loom.”
